Killygarry Old School

Thank you so much to Archie's mum Michelle, who came into the class today to tell us all about what it was like in the Killygarry Old School.

She told us that there were 60 pupils in the school. There were only 2 classrooms with several classes in each room. There was a stove to heat the classroom and they had to put coal into it. The desks were wooden desks which seated two. The toilets were outside in a separate building and in winter they would freeze over! The yard had a wall going down the middle and the boys and girls were separated. They played games in the yard such as Red Rover, tag, rounders, I sent a letter and What time is it Mr Wolf. The teachers were strict and the children were very quiet and well-behaved. There was not much room in the classrooms, so they didn't get to do art very often.
