Making Bread, Butter and Jam

We have been learning about farms recently. So today we made our very own bread, butter and jam.
We made the butter by whipping cream and salt together and we made the jam by mashing strawberries, raspberries together with sugar.
Here is the recipe for the bread:

540g plain flour
7g sachet of yeast
2 teaspoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
1 and a half cups of warm water.

1. Add the yeast and sugar to the water and leave for 5 minutes.
2. Add the flour and salt to a bowl. Mix.
3. Add the liquid to the flour mixture.
4. Mix for 5 minutes.
5. Place on a floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes.
6. Leave the dough in a warm place to rise for an hour or more.
7. Shape dough into a loaf and bake in  180 degree oven for half an hour.

Poems for Speech and Drama exam

The Wrong Start

By Marchette Chute

I got up this morning and meant to be good,
But things didn't happen the way that they should.
I lost my toothbrush,
  I slammed the door,
I dropped an egg on the kitchen floor,
  I spilled some sugar
and after that I tried to hurry
and tripped on the cat.
Things may get better. I don't know when.
I think I'll go back and start over again.

SLEEPY TOWN

 By Marjory Royce

Sleepy Town is very nice,
At breakfast you have strawberry ice,
For dinner there is Apple Foam,
A thing you never get at home.
And all the meals are served by cats
Wearing little sailor hats.
You must try with might and main
To catch that very special train,
The engine driver is a Hare,
The railway guard is a baby Bear.

Shut your eyes and you'll be there!

Stories

By John D. Sheridan

Last thing at night,
Before we go to bed,
Mum tells stories
Out of her head.
We all sit quiet,
We don’t make a sound –
Some on chairs
 And some on the ground;
 Keeping very still
And with no wish to play,
For this is the happiest
Hour of the day;
When we gather round the fire,
Before we go to bed,
And Mum tells stories
Out of her head.

Words for Christmas performance

YMCA

Young man, there's no need to feel down.
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground.
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy.

Young man, there's a place you can go.
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough.
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

They have everything for young men to enjoy,
You can hang out with all the boys...

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

You can get yourself clean, you can have a good meal,
You can do whatever you feel...

Young man, are you listening to me?
I said, young man, what do you wanna be?
I said, young man, you can make real your dreams.
But you got to know this one thing!

No man does it all by himself.
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf,
And just go there, to the Y.M.C.A.
I'm sure they can help you today.

Young man, I was once in your shoes.
I said, I was down and out with the blues.
I felt no man cared if I were alive.
I felt the whole world was so jive...

That's when someone came up to me,
And said, "Young man, take a walk up the street.
There's a place there called the 'Y.M.C.A.'
They can start you back on your way."

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

They have everything for young men to enjoy,
You can hang out with all the boys...

Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

Young man, young man, there's no need to feel down.
Young man, young man, get yourself off the ground.
Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

Young man, are you listening to me?
Young man, young man, what do you wanna be?

Y.M.C.A.
You'll find it at the Y.M.C.A.

No man, young man, does it all by himself.
Young man, young man, put your pride on the shelf,

Y.M.C.A.
And just go to the Y.M.C.A.

Young man, young man, I was once in your shoes.
Young man, young man, I was down with the blues.

Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.

 Here Comes Santa Claus

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus Lane
Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeers pulling on the reins
Bells are ringing, children singing, all is merry and bright
So hang your stockings and say your prayers, 'cause Santa Claus comes tonight

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus Lane
He's got a bag that's filled with toys for boys and girls again
Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle, oh what a beautiful sight
So jump in bed and cover your head, 'cause Santa Claus comes tonight
Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus Lane
He doesn't care if you're rich or poor, he loves you just the same
Santa Claus knows we're all God's children, that makes everything right
So fill your hearts with Christmas cheer, 'cause Santa Claus comes tonight

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus Lane
He'll come around when chimes ring out that it's Christmas morn' again
Peace on Earth will come to all if we just follow the light
So let's give thanks to the lord above, 'cause Santa Claus comes tonight

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus Lane
Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeers pulling on the reins
Bells are ringing, children singing, all is merry and bright
So hang your stockings and say your prayers, 'cause Santa Claus comes tonight

Top Marks Maths

We have been using a fun maths website called Topmarks to help learn odd and even numbers.
It would be good for the children to play the game at home also. Follow the link below to the website.

Once you're in the website, go to "select age group" and choose "key stage 1".

Click "go".

Then click on "maths" from the "popular subjects" tab.

Go to page 3 of the games.

Click on "Coconut Odds and Evens" and set the target numbers 1-20

Have fun!
